About Fairview

Fairview Elementary School serves approximately 550 students in kindergarten through sixth grade. We have been serving the community since 1957. In 2014, Fairview received the honor of becoming a National Blue Ribbon School.

Fairview has a diverse population with nearly 40 different languages spoken and represents cultures from all over the world. All students are fully included into the general education classrooms. Our diversity provides opportunities for students to expand their global knowledge and excel academically.

Fairview staff are dedicated to providing an excellent educational environment and hold high expectations for all students. They work in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to collaboratively plan and implement instruction using District 54’s core curriculum, which are aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards. Our PLC teams utilize curriculum-aligned acceleration four days per week for a half-hour in both reading and math to meet the needs of every child. Under the umbrella of our acceleration model, students needing extra time and assistance receive curriculum-aligned intervention, while those performing at or above grade level receive differentiated enrichment.

During the literacy and math blocks, teachers use a balanced approach to student learning. Students receive teacher-modeled shared instruction, small-group guided instruction, and independent practice to master skills and concepts. During science and social studies, students master content-specific concepts and improve their literacy skills, including content area reading and writing. Science and social studies are also balanced with teacher modeling and student application, including hands-on science activities.

Fairview teachers offer many before, during, and after school programs and clubs to support our students and provide enrichment activities. These opportunities which vary from year to year include: Breakfast with Books, Student Leadership, Patrols, Rocketry, FUSE (science, technology, engineering, arts/design, and math exploration), GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Mathematics, and Science), Coding, Science Fair, Battle of the Books, Running Club, Musical Performances, and Advanced Art. Students who participate in extracurricular activities learn how to manage their time and perform better in school.

The Fairview PTA is a highly visible support to our well-rounded program. As our most successful partnership, the PTA contributes time, talent and funding so that they can offer social activities, as well as promote our academic learning environment. Among the highlights of the PTA-sponsored activities are a year-round reading recognition program, a birthday book club, and a cultural arts program.
